On the 6th and 7th of February 2020, the Amsterdam School of Communication Research (ASCoR) at the University of Amsterdam hosts the “Etmaal van de Communicatiewetenschap”, the annual conference for all communication science scholars in the Netherlands, Flanders, and beyond. The theme of this year’s conference is ‘(Mis)informing the public?’, and focuses on the opportunities and challenges for scientists to communicate their findings to a wider audience, as well as on the broader role of facts and evidence in current societal and public debates. The call for abstracts is now online, abstracts can be submitted until November 4th, 2019.
Etmaal 2020 takes place in convention center “Casa” on the Eerste Ringdijkstraat 4, 1097 BC Amsterdam. On the evening of the 6th, the dinner and party will be held in “De Vergulden Eenhoorn”, on the Ringdijk 58, 1091 AH Amsterdam.

The theme of the 2020 Etmaal is ‘(Mis)informing the public?’ and focuses on the opportunities and challenges for scientists to communicate their findings to a wider audience, as well as on the broader role of facts and evidence in current societal and public debates.
We welcome abstracts that fall within the broad scope of communication science. The following guidelines apply:

Written in Dutch or English (if accepted, we ask you to prepare a presentation in English)
Clearly present the title, topic, theoretical framework, method, results, and conclusion

The deadline for abstract submission is Monday, 4 November, 23u59. Abstracts can be submitted here. We will accept a maximum of one first-author submission – with no limitation regarding submissions as co-author – to ensure a diversity of speakers and equal chances for all to present and attend the conference.
Pre-conference on framing in journalism and public relations
On 6 February 2020, the "Pre-conference on framing in journalism and public relations" will be held in the morning prior to the Etmaal van de Communicatiewetenschap 2020. This pre-conference is an initiative of the Journalism division and Organizational Communication division of NefCA. The aim of this pre-conference is to offer a platform to researchers from the various NeFCA divisions to discuss the most recent research on framing in Journalism and PR. Particular attention is paid to framing research that is situated at the crossroads between 'journalism' and 'organizational communication'. The call for papers for this pre-conference can be consulted here.

The FRIEDA SAEYS PRIZE 2020
The Board of the Frieda Saeys Foundation announces the second of an ongoing series of awards to support young scholars (master, doctoral and recently graduated post-doctoral students) to attend the Etmaal Conference - in Amsterdam, February 2020, organized under the auspices of the Netherlands-Flanders Communication Association (NeFCA). NeFCA DISSERTATION AWARD 2018
To be eligible for this award, the dissertation must have been successfully defended between January 1, 2018 and December 31, 2018, at one of the Departments of Communication Sciences at universities in the Netherlands and Flanders that are members of NeFCA. Read more.
NefCA YOUNG SCHOLAR AWARD 2020
The YSA is meant to honor the accomplishments of young doctors (e.g., post-doc, assistant-professor, lecturer) who succeed in combining their individual academic career with contributions to the discipline of communication and media research. Therefore, the criteria for this award concentrate on a combination of a good academic track-record and notable efforts with respect to the development of the discipline. Read more.
Etmaal 2020 will be held at Casa (Eerste Ringdijkstraat 4, 1097 BC Amsterdam). Casa is located in the east of Amsterdam, close to Amsterdam Amstel station and is recently fully renovated.
